This morning Michael Feigenbaum, owner of Lucy’s Sweet Surrender, the fantastic Hunagrian bakery on Buckeye Road, sent me a  link to an interesting blog that appeared on Carolyn Jack’s Geniocity  about his efforts to survive the economic downturn. . (It was posted in January but he just found it. The section about him is a few paragraphs in, after a bit about a local photographer).

The most important take away message from that post- and this one- is that if we like being able to eat fresh handmade strudel and authentic dobos tortes, than we must help him stay in business by getring ourselves out to his shop or onto his website and buy his products year round and not just on holidays and for special occaisions.

    for all of you out there in greater Cleveland, Lucy’s products are available at several farmers markets each week.
    -Wednesday: Lakewood 10am-1pm Detroit/Arthur behind the drug mart
    -Thursady: Twinsburg 3pm-6pm on the square starting July 2
    -Saturday: Shaker Sq. 8am.-noon
    Crocker Park. 9am-1pm
    -Sunday: Chagrin Falls 10am-1pm, downtown
    Kamm’s Corner 10am-2pm

    We oftenwe sell out at these markets. To be sure your product is available you can always call us at the shop 216-752-0828 to order and pick up at the market of your choice. I would also like to mention that along with the strudels and other Hungarian goodies we make 12 types of scratch breads for the markets. Many are whole grain types and we use fantastic flours blended here in the U.S. by Abel and Shafer, a German company I have worked with for a long time. This year I also have a new blend called Norlander, a hearty mix of wheat,rye chops and flaked rye, flax, and unbleached natural high gluten flour from Bay State Milling, established in 1899.
